Several incidents involving stolen Christmas lights and vandalism in the area of Olive Street occurred over the weekend.

A call came in around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 17 reporting a suspicious male in the area of Martha Street and Olive Street. Police reports state that the caller stepped outside and saw a male with a bag and can. When the suspect saw the caller he dropped the bag and ran.

The suspect was described as a white male in his early 20s wearing a black sweatshirt and dark blue jeans, carrying a dark backpack with Christmas lights and a spray paint can.

Reports state that a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy told Stillwater police that a person matching the suspect’s description had run away from them in the area of Martha Street and was not located.

At 5 a.m. while Stillwater Police were on patrol, they found items including Christmas lights, a spray can and two lawn signs in a yard, as well as attempted graffiti on a home on the 700 block of Olive Street. The homeowner told officers the items were not his and that he would have the graffiti removed.

Another victim on the 700 block of Olive Street reported her full Christmas light display stolen around 6 a.m. The lights were taken from the exterior of her house and a large amount of lights were in the street. The victim said that some of the lights were not hers.

Later in the day a call came in reporting theft of Christmas lights and graffiti at a property on the 1100 block of Meadowlark Lane. The victim told police that somebody sprayed graffiti on the west fence line and two strands of Christmas lights were taken from a tree near the walking path.

Disruptive women taken into custody

Two women were taken into police custody the evening of Nov. 18 after causing issues at Brine’s Bar in downtown Stillwater.

The women, identified as Katrina Gasser and Trisha Hughes, were reportedly belligerent and swearing and had refused to leave the bar after several requests when police were called.

Stillwater police reports state the bar’s bouncer told police that the women had come to the bar on a couple different occasions during the night and that the last time they came back they appeared to be on some sort of drug.

When police arrived the women agreed to go outside and were given a trespass warning. They got in a cab but came back and attempted to get in the bar again shortly after police had cleared the scene.

Police were called again, and upon arrival discovered that the women had gone to Whitey’s bar. Reports state that police tracked them down for violating the trespass order at Brine’s and the women had to be physically removed from the premises and taken into custody.

Reports state that upon searching Gasser at intake, corrections officers found a cellophane baggie with 17 pills identified as Lorazapam, but Gasser told officers “those aren’t mine.” A Miranda interview was conducted with Gasser who told police she had found the baggie at Smalley’s lying on the floor in the bathroom, had picked it up and was going to throw it away but decided to put it in her pocket. Police said they didn’t believe her and asked if she had purchased it or gotten it from anyone in particular. Gasser refused to answer the question.
