A 22-year-old man was cited for shoplifting at Lens Family Food on Jan. 23.
An employee had observed a package of beef jerky fall out of the man’s coat while he was walking down the aisle and followed the man.
While the employee was following the man, he also saw a pop fall out of the man’s coat. The employee detained the man and called Stillwater police.
The shoplifter told police that he was waiting for his girlfriend, who was supposed to come and pay for the items, and didn’t explain why he concealed the items in his coat. Police conducted a pat search and found two meat patties in the shoplifter’s right boot.
The total value of the items that the man took was $16.22.
After leaving the store, police reports say, the man turned around, looked at officers, and tore up his citation. Then he got in a vehicle and left the area.
