An Oak Park Heights man made his initial appearance in court last week in connection with an Aug. 11 incident.

Trevor Duane Nelson is charged with first-degree aggravated robbery and aiding and abetting third-degree assault.

The victim in the case told police that he was at Treasure Island Casino with friends when he received a call from Nelson telling him to meet him at a garage in Newport, Wis. that belonged to a man named Timothy Moore. The victim agreed.

Upon arrival, the victim told police, he found five people in the garage. The victim and three friends attempted to enter the garage, but one was allegedly forced out, leaving the victim and two friends in the garage.

Nelson allegedly grabbed the victim from behind and choked him until he was unable to breathe. One of the other men in the garage then allegedly took the victim’s shorts off and took $1,200 from him. Another person in the garage then allegedly took the purse of one of the victim’s friends, dumped the contents and took cell phones and a wallet from the purse. When the woman tried to get her purse back, one of the men in the garage stuck a can of pepper spray in her face and told her that he’d use it on her, court documents say.

The third person to enter the garage with the victim was allegedly jumped by a juvenile who kicked, punched and attacked. That victim ended up at the hospital suffering from a concussion.

The victim said he didn’t know if the incident was a set-up or not but knew that Nelson was angry about the $1,500 that he owed him.
